I don’t wake up wanting to clean but I enjoy a clean house and feel so much better when things are tidy and there’s order in our home. When I don’t want to clean, I try to reframe my motivation and think about how much better I’ll feel when the kitchen is clean or the laundry is folded. I’ll also think about how much harder it will be if I put it off another day. Cleaning daily makes it easier every day AND it keeps cleaning from being overwhelming.
And one of the top questions was how to get motivated to clean or spring clean. So today I’m going to share my tips for motivation – I hope that they are helpful!
• Choose cleaning supplies that you enjoy using. Color coordinate or just choose supplies you like the look of – I find that having cute supplies does make cleaning more fun.
• Don’t put it off – get it over with and get on with your life.
• Start in the worst area first and keep going with that momentum.
• Listen to a podcast, audiobook, or your favorite music – think of it as an escape.
• Call someone and chat while you’re cleaning. Chances are you’ll enjoy the conversation more than you realize that you’re cleaning.
• Make it a game – set a timer and race yourself.
• Invite someone over – you will probably get more done in a shorter period of time.
• Reward yourself with something that motivates you when you accomplish your goal.

Not a big fan of cleaning? If it’s your time to cut through
the clutter and do some deep cleaning in your house, we’ve got a somewhat
painless plan. Even though we all wish
we can open the windows and doors and let the air gush through the house, and
rid of all the dust and grime – no such luck. Well – we put together a little process for you on a cleaning guide…
But first, you’ve got to get your head in the game by doing a little
pre-cleaning prep.
Organizing Time
Visualize your ideal setup. Before dumping everything in
your closet into a big pile on the floor, take a minute to visualize how you’d
like your living space to look. Once you
know how you want to set up your space, you’ll more easily be able to decide
what you need in terms of storage, bins, and tools.
Deep Cleaning Time
Sanitize your sponges. The germiest item in your home is
sitting right there in your kitchen sink.
In a bowl, add one part bleach to nine parts water and let your sponge
sit in it for a minute. Then, rinse the sponge and use it to wipe down your
countertops. Unfortunately, this step isn’t just for spring. Now you can clean
your kitchen counters, along with your refrigerator, stove and cutting boards. Make
sure to do the same with your bathroom sponges, too.
Start with your bedroom (your allergies will thank you). A
good spring cleaning ritual should really start with where you snooze. When you
get into bed, your sheets become home to constantly-shedding skin cells, hair,
lotion and sweat — as well as anything you’ve picked up during the day, like
pollen or pet dander. And your dead skin
cells are the perfect food for dust mites, allowing them to multiply like
crazy. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, dust mites
are a common cause of year-round allergies. All of these things can seep into
your pillows and mattress, too, if you’re not diligent. It is said and recommended
to wash your sheets at least once a week and getting a mattress protector. That
will prevent the outside from going in and the inside from going out.
Follow the same formula in every room. Working top to bottom and back to front in
each room. Chances are, you rarely, if ever, look at your ceiling — so start
there, checking for cobwebs and dust, she says. Then, work your way down in a
circle so you don’t redo your steps. Oh, and check areas that may have been
overlooked for a long time — like ceiling fans and behind your toilet, both of
which can quickly wiped down.

Remove water stains
with lemon for a natural faucet fix
This spring, make faucets clean and sparkly by rubbing a
lemon half on the water stains. The citric acid helps remove hard water marks.
Then, use the other half of the lemon for our next tip.
Clean your microwave
by heating lemon juice and rinds in water
Cut a lemon into halves, squeeze the juice into 1/2 cup of
water and drop the rinds into the mixture. Microwave for three minutes and let
it stand for five minutes without opening the door. The trapped steam will
loosen the grime, so you can wipe the microwave clean with less elbow grease.
Use white vinegar to
beat shower head buildup
Looking for more natural ways to clean your bathroom?
Vinegar can dissolve the mineral deposits accumulate in showerheads over time,
causing reduced pressure and water flow. Fill a plastic bag with white vinegar,
secure it over the showerhead with a rubber band and leave it overnight to get
rid of buildup. Just be sure to run the shower before you hop in, or you risk
smelling like vinegar all day.
Clean stainless steel
sinks with baking soda
Simply wet your sink and faucet, sprinkle baking soda, and
scrub with a sponge. If you need more heavy-duty scrubbing power, add salt to
the baking soda.
Spring Cleaning in Overland Park KS
Organize your fridge
and cabinets with rotating turntables
Don’t limit rotating turntables and Lazy Susans to your
tabletops. After discarding old condiments and spices, organize your pantries
and refrigerator with this useful storage hack.
Place a wet dryer sheet on your ceramic stovetop to remove
burnt-on residue
Dryer sheets are non-abrasive and a great way to remove
burnt-on food from your stove. Place the wet dryer sheet on your stovetop at
least 15 minutes before rubbing the gunk away.
Clean your grill with
an onion.
Get your grill cleaned up and ready for the warm weather.
First, heat it up and spray some white vinegar onto the grates to help loosen
the residue. Then, scrub the area firmly using half an onion. The acid from the
onion will rid your grill of any leftover remnants.
